Tottenham Hotspur won against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League at the weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker-Peters has told the club’s official website that he was targeted by Newcastle United players at the weekend.

Walker-Peters featured for Tottenham in the Premier League game against Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

It was the 20-year-old right-back’s debut for Spurs in the top flight of English football. The English youngster got his chance due to the the departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City and the injury to Kieran Trippier.

It was a memorable debut for Walker-Peters, as he played well and helped Tottenham win 2-0 against 10-man Newcastle.

The 20-year-old defender has stated that he was targeted by the Newcastle players early on as he was making his debut.

“I noticed they targeted me from that start and that’s fair enough, I was making my debut,” Walker-Peters told Tottenham’s official website when asked about winning his early duels.

“I think I dealt with that quite well, I won my first header and from there, you get a bit of confidence.

“Once they went down to 10 men we were in full control and I was able to get down the sides and have a few one-on-ones. I put some crosses in and we created a few chances.

“The main thing is to get off to a good start in the Premier League with three points and a good performance.”
