Celtic could do with a new right-back this summer.

There has been plenty of debate since Cristian Gamboa’s return to the Celtic side over who should be Brendan Rodgers’ long-term right-back – and the Hoops boss can put an end to such doubts by landing Tottenham’s Kyle Walker-Peters.

Gamboa, who impressed at the World Cup with Costa Rica, played against Rosenborg during the Hoops 3-1 win in the first leg of their second qualifying round for the Champions League group stages.

There have been doubts surrounding whether Mikael Lustig is good enough to remain first-choice, with a number of questionable performances last season including the 4-0 loss to Hearts.

A new right-sided defender would certainly not go amiss, one that can prove much more consistent than the Hoops current options and with Walker-Peters already showing that kind of quality at Spurs.

Football London claim the 21-year-old could leave Spurs on loan this summer, after being limited to just nine appearances in all competitions with Serge Aurier, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose and Ben Davies occupying the full-back slots.

Though the England youth international did sign a new contract that will see him remain at Spurs until June 2021, the likelihood of him breaking into the first team is next to zero.

A loan spell is crucial for Walker-Peters development and what better club to move to than Celtic, who are on course to make the Champions League group stages after their excellent win against Rosenborg.

Testing himself against Europe’s best would not only benefit both Spurs and Walker-Peters, but Celtic too if indeed the Hoops pursued a deal to sign the defender.

He is already a level above Lustig and Gamboa, and luring him to Celtic will remove all doubts regarding selection and finally give Rodgers a player in which he can trust on the right side of defence.
