Harry Kane scored a remarkable injury-time winner against Manchester City to win 3-2, as Tottenham stunned the Premier League champions. Kyle Walker-Peters and Kieran Trippier praised the Spurs man on Instagram.
Coming into the match, the negative atmosphere at Spurs was alarming. Three straight league defeats was compounded by Antonio Conte’s criticism of the club in the January window. A trip to The Etihad was next.
The odds were firmly stacked against Tottenham – but they produced a stunning display to beat City. They took the lead through Dejan Kulusevski, after a neat pass from Kane freed Son Heung-min – who teed up the Swede.
Ilkay Gundogan equalised after a mistake from Hugo Lloris. But Kane got a second soon after half-time, finishing superbly from a Son Heung-min cross. Spurs looked as though they had done enough to nab all three points.
But a Cristian Romero handball saw Riyad Mahrez score a 94th-minute penalty. A draw looked inevitable, only for Kane to score again moments later. He posted on Instagram after the match, underlining his delight.
Kane downs Manchester City: Tottenham star shows huge passion
Of course, it was against a side that had tried to sign Kane in the summer. But the England skipper put that aside to score twice, just his sixth and seventh Premier League goals of the campaign. A stunning win.
The dealight was for all to see in his celebration and he certainly looked as though he enjoyed the win in injury time. Ex-Spurs teammates Walker-Peters, now at Southampton, and Newcastle star Trippier responded.
