The England international reached the landmark against Bournemouth, having signed for the White Hart Lane outfit in 2009.
Tottenham’s Kyle Walker gestures as he prepares to take a throw in
Tottenham Hotspur’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth may have been frustrating for the Lilywhites, but for Kyle Walker it was a landmark appearance, and he spoke to the club Twitter account about his time at Spurs and his future after the game.
The former Sheffield United man made his 200th official appearance for the club, and secured a clean sheet to boot, before making his affection for the club clear.
“It’s a pat on the back for myself,” Walker told Spurs TV following the final whistle. “When I first came there were six fullbacks in front of me. So to say I’m the only one left out of that bunch is full credit to myself.
“What a great club! It’s my home now, I’ve fully enjoyed my time here and hopefully there’s a lot more, another 200 [matches] to come.”
It was Walker’s ninth league appearance of the season against Bournemouth, and it further underlined his position as a member of the league’s best defence.
The 26-year-old has had up and down moments at White Hart Lane. He was named PFA Young Player of the Year in his first full season, also making the Team of the Year that campaign. But in subsequent seasons his form was less consistent.
That was until last year, when Spurs recorded the joint best defensive record in the league, and Walker one again proved he was arguably the best right back in the Premier League. This season Spurs are already way out in front of anyone else when it comes to a defensive record, only conceding four times.
Walker has also claimed the England right back slot as his own, now boasting 22 caps to his name.
Given his age, the rapid fullback could easily clock another 200 appearances if he steers clear of injury, having signed a new five-year deal at Tottenham this September.
