Tottenham Hotspur are potentially two games away from ending the season with silverware, and their former defender is urging them on.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men continue to find themselves under pressure with their critics – perhaps unfairly – adamant that they must win silverware if they are going to cement themselves as one of the great teams of the Premier League era.

They did reach the knockout stages of the Champions League and have put themselves in the driving seat for another top four finish, but the FA Cup represents their only remaining chance this term to get their hands on a trophy. And Walker – who is not the most popular player amongst the Spurs fans following his £52 million move to Manchester City last summer, with the fee reported by the Daily Mail – insisted that he would love to see his old side book themselves a ticket to the final on Saturday.

“To do that in a season when they had a lot of ifs and buts about Wembley would be very good for them.”
What certainly helps Spurs is the fact that they go into the final five league games of the campaign seven points clear of fifth place Chelsea, so they should be able to prioritise the FA Cup without jeopardising their top four prospects.
Their semi-final opponents may be able to do the same, but the prospect of squandering second place at the expense of Liverpool has to be in the back of their minds given the rivalry between the two clubs – so perhaps that may help Spurs, who could also be in contention for second.
And with Chelsea recently dispatched and Southampton looking to be in serious danger of falling into the Championship, Spurs surely have little to fear if they are able to find their best form in the semi-final and then, potentially the final after that.
