The Tottenham Hotspur man says the 61-year-old remains a great guy.
Kyle Walker has told ESPN that it was “fantastic” to work alongside axed England boss Sam Allardyce.
The 61-year-old was sacked as England manager last week after only 67 days in the job, following a scandal in which he advised an undercover reporter on how to breach transfer rules regarding players.
The Tottenham Hotspur right-back had started Allardyce’s first and last game in charge of the Three Lions – a 1-0 win in Slovenia for World Cup qualifying – and the Spurs man says the ex-Newcastle and Bolton boss is a “great guy”.
He told ESPN: “Football’s a crazy sport. Things do happen, but obviously when Sam was here it was fantastic working with him. He’s a great guy and we got along well.”
Gareth Southgate will replace Allardyce in the short term after being given the role on four-game temporary basis, though it remains to be seen whether or not he will be considered for the permanent job.
Walker is likely to retain his place at right-back despite Allardyce’s removal, with the 26-year-old playing a big role in Tottenham’s excellent start to the season.
He has started all seven of Tottenham’s Premier League games as Mauricio Pochettino’s side sit second in the table, one point behind Man City.
