Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was determined to sign Kyle Lafferty this season.

Glasgow Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty has admitted to Rangers TV that he has been disappointed with Steven Gerrard’s team selections since moving to Ibrox.

Lafferty joined Rangers in the summer, with Gerrard making the striker one of his top targets in the summer transfer window.

However, the Northern Irish international has had to play second fiddle to Alfredo Morelos since moving to Ibrox.

And Lafferty admits that he wishes he had been given more chances to play for Rangers so far this season, even though he was never expecting to feature every week.

“I want to play as many games as possible,” Lafferty said.

“I haven’t really played as much football as I wanted, but when you have a striker who plays in my position and is scoring goals and doing well for the team it is difficult to get in, unless the manager decides to go with two up-front.

“But I knew I wouldn’t be coming here to play every single game and as long as the team is winning and I’m getting an odd minute here and there I’m happy.”

Lafferty was once again only used as a substitute for Rangers yesterday, as they picked up a 2-1 victory over Hearts.

Lafferty was sent on to help protect Rangers’ advantage, after they were sent down to 10 men.

The 31-year-old striker has started just five Scottish Premiership matches for Rangers this season, although he has often played an important role off the bench.

Rangers’ win over Hearts yesterday pushed them up to the top of the Scottish Premiership standings.
