Lafferty scored as Rangers beat Hamilton 5-0 on Sunday.
Kyle Lafferty has told Rangers TV that he wants to learn from Jermain Defoe despite scoring after coming off the substitute bench in the 5-0 win over Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
Rangers ran riot at New Douglas Park as Ryan Jack gave his side the lead with a curling effort from distance. It was 2-0 just seconds later, as Defoe got on the end of a James Tavernier cross.
Scott Arfield made it three with a rocket from the edge of the area that hit the roof of Gary Woods’ net, before Tavernier got in on the act himself with a fourth from the penalty spot after Ryan Kent had been brought down.
Lafferty came off the bench to tap home a fifth in injury time after good work from Daniel Candeias, and he said after the match that he is looking to learn from 57-time England international Defoe.
“I don’t think you can stop learning,” Lafferty said. “Especially with someone like Jermain coming in. He’s played at the top level all his career and for England. Someone of his standard, I want to pick up different parts of his game.”
Defoe, 36, has been involved in eight Rangers goals since joining the club on an 18-month loan from AFC Bournemouth in the January window. He has scored five times, as well as creating three.
Meanwhile, Lafferty has struggled at Rangers since his £500,000 (Evening Times) move back to Ibrox from Hearts. The target man has scored five goals in 25 league and cup appearances for the Gers this season.
