Glasgow Rangers forward Kyle Lafferty has arguably not enjoyed the best spell since returning to Ibrox in the summer.
With Alfredo Morelos in such brilliant form, it was always going to be difficult for Kyle Lafferty to hit the ground running following his return to Rangers in the summer.
In fairness to Lafferty, he has arguably done a decent job when Steven Gerrard has turned to him. He has scored four goals in 12 appearances, and that is not bad given that he has only started five times since his move.
However, having not scored in any of his last five, the pressure is starting to be applied, especially with Morelos only failing to score in three of his last 12 appearances.
And with The Scottish Sun suggesting recently that Rangers want to loan Dominic Solanke from Liverpool in the January transfer window, Lafferty could perhaps find opportunities even more difficult to come by in the near future unless his form in front of goal improves.
Given the Solanke rumours therefore, the Northern Ireland international may be forgiven for being slightly grateful to Morelos picking up a yellow card at the weekend as he will now be suspended for the trip to Dundee next month.
Lafferty is likely to feature several times before the end of the year given the lack of options available to Gerrard up front. But clearly, the Dundee game presents his best chance of securing another start before the winter break.
It is going to take something special for Lafferty to push ahead of Morelos in the pecking order anytime soon. But if he can take his chance when it surely comes his way at Dens Park, then perhaps he can influence how determined Gerrard is to sign Solanke when the window opens.
