The defender says goals need to come from everywhere for Leeds this season.

When Garry Monk took over as Leeds United manager in the summer it was immediately expected that the new boss would be looking to former club Swansea City for some new recruits.

One player who did arrive from South Wales was central defender Kyle Bartley on loan.

The former Arsenal youngster has looked a good signing so far for the club, even if Leeds have struggled to find consistent form in their opening games of the Championship season.

However, the defender believes that Leeds fans are now seeing what the manager and the team are trying to implement at Elland Road.

He told the Yorkshire Post:

Leeds take on Huddersfield Town today in the West Yorkshire derby, a team Bartley has fond memories of.

He scored a double against Huddersfield whilst on loan for Birmingham City in a 3-1 win, although was also sent off in the game. He is yet to open his account for Leeds but insists that being a centre-back does not excuse him from goalscoring duties:

“It was a big three points at the time for Birmingham, who were struggling.

“But to get sent off like that was disappointing. That said, I have to take the positives out of it and those were the two goals I scored to help us win the game.

“What I need to do now is get another goal, we can’t just leave it to the strikers. We all have to chip in. This is a collective and we all have to try and do our bit.”

Bartley may not know of Leeds’ recent poor record of scoring goals from corners, where he would most likely make an impact. If he could start finding the net regularly in the air, he would quickly become a hero among the Leeds faithful.
