Leeds United defender Kyle Bartley has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Robert Green will move on from the mistake he committed at the weekend.

The West Yorkshire outfit suffered a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at Elland Road in the Championship on Sunday afternoon.

The Whites’ defeat to Newcastle cannot be solely blamed on Green, but the goalkeeper did play a major role.

The former Queens Park Rangers custodian failed to collect a hopeful long ball, dropping it for Dwight Gayle to turn home from just yards out.

Bartley has said that Green will move on from the mistake he made against Rafael Benitez’s side and has defended the 36-year-old.

“When you’re in defence or the goalkeeper, with any little mistake you’re going to get punished,” Bartley told The Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Greeny has probably saved us nine to 12 points this season already and he’s been fantastic. It’s one of those you take on the chin and move on. He’s experienced enough to put it behind him.”

Green is a good goalkeeper, but in his career, the Englishman has been prone to making costly errors.

However, at the age of 36, the former West Ham United goalkeeper is mature enough not to let his mistake against Newcastle get to him.

Leeds are seventh in the Championship table at the moment with 26 points from 17 matches, just a point behind sixth-placed Norwich City.
