Celtic youngster Kundai Benyu wants to fight for first-team spot.
Celtic new boy Kundai Benyu has told the club’s official website that he would rather stay with Brendan Rodgers’s side than go out on loan.
The 19-year-old enjoyed an excellent Celtic debut in spite of Lyon’s 4-0 victory at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon.
It was his first match since joining the Hoops from Ipswich Town in the same cross-border loophole which saw Rodgers snap up Moussa Dembele for next to nothing.
And the youngster certainly caught the attention of Celtic fans during his debut, many of whom offered glowing reviews of his performance on Twitter afterwards.
After the Lyon game, Rodgers revealed that he was contemplating sending him out on loan, prior to his performance against the Ligue 1 giants, but Benyu tells the Bhoys’ official site that he is willing to fight for his first-team place in Glasgow next season.
“I wasn’t sure if I was going to go on loan but I came in here and worked as hard as I can so I’m happy to stay and fight for my place,” he said.
“I would much rather be settled here in Glasgow with the boys, playing week-in, week-out in the league, so I’m happy to do that.
“Given time and by working as hard as I can in training, and by listening to the gaffer’s advice, I think I will be able to get into the team as much as I can.
“I think I’m ready to step in now if the gaffer calls on me but the main objective is to keep working hard in training every day.”
