Dejan Kulusevski has told Spurs Play – as per Football London – that he has found it really “hard” at Tottenham over the last couple of months after finally returning from a hamstring injury, picked up on international duty with Sweden.
Kulusevski, 22, has returned for Tottenham’s final two games before the World Cup break. Against Liverpool, he got an assist for Harry Kane and on Saturday, he notched his 13th assist in Spurs colours. Spurs beat Leeds United 4-3.
The absence of the Swedish ace has really highlighted the lack of creativity in Tottenham’s side. Son Heung-min is not particularly creative, often looking to score and run in behind Harry Kane. Kane has been more focused on goals.
There has been some creativity – Ivan Perisic probably the best example. But Spurs have missed Kulusevski and his return has shown just how important he is. He spoke after the match about his difficulty with the hamstring injury.

“I don’t think people understand how it is to be out,” Kulusevski told Spurs Play, as per Football London. “It’s so hard, you want to help your team and make a difference, but you can’t help your team. I try to do the little things right.
“Like sleep well, eat well so when I’m ready I can perform and I cannot look rusty. I’ve felt very good when I’ve come back these two games so I’m happy and I’m on the right road,” Kulusevski continued.
Kulusevski has found it hard at Tottenham after injury
It is amazing that Tottenham are such a completely different team in the final third when Kulusevski is playing. A player that only joined Spurs in January – and still only remains on loan. But it is a deal that will be made permanent for £25m.
If Spurs are to do anything successful this season, then it is crucial Kulusevski remains fit. Perhaps, just as important as keeping Kane fit. He gives Spurs the creativity that brings the best out of Kane and his fellow Spurs attackers.
Perhaps, then, the World Cup break has come at the perfect time for Kulusevski. The chance to get his body right, with Sweden having failed to qualify for the finals in Qatar. He can get back to 100%, and shine for Spurs from Boxing Day.
