West Ham United were reportedly keen on signing the striker this month.
Krzysztof Piatek shared why he decided to join AC Milan rather than West Ham this month, when speaking exclusively to Polish media outlet Przeglad Sportowy yesterday.
The 23-year-old Poland international joined the Rossoneri from Genoa earlier this week for around €35 million (£30 million), according to BBC Sport.
Before Piatek joined Milan, West Ham were interested in signing the striker, according to Football.London, but a move to the London Stadium obviously failed to materialise.
And now the Polish ace has broken his silence, telling reporters why he chose not to join the Hammers, opting for a switch to the San Siro instead, when speaking exclusively to Polish media outlet Przeglad Sportowy yesterday:
“I was determined about Milan. With all due respect to West Ham, but I came to a much bigger club. Money can be at a similar level, but at this stage of my career it’s not the most important for me. Here I have the chance to play in the Champions League.”
West Ham’s need for a striker is not quite as urgent now as it once was, however, following Marko Arnautovic’s comments yesterday.
The Austrian took to Instagram, insisting that he is ready to fight for West Ham for the remainder of the season, but it would still be no surprise to see him leave during the summer transfer window.
Piatek certainly wont be replacing him, however.
There are plenty of other options for Manuel Pellegrini to consider, including Edin Dzeko and Andrea Belotti, but quite who the Chilean will move for remains to be seen.
