Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Sunderland and Chelsea players feature in our heroes of this weekend’s Premier League action.
It was a massive weekend in the Premier League which has seen a bit of a shake-up towards the top of the Premier League table. Here are five key figures who had a big part to play in all of that, and possibly regarded as heroes for their side after this weekend.
Wayne Rooney
Many will have seen Robin Van Persie as Manchester United’s hero for scoring a wonderful error in their big win over Arsenal, but Rooney’s contribution was immense. A performance full of commitment, work rate, a constant threat to Arsenal and he also provided a wonderful corner for the winner.
Steven Gerrard
Whilst the opposition may have been poor at Anfield, it is very difficult to ignore the contribution of the Liverpool captain during their 4-0 win over Fulham. He was involved in every one of the goals which allowed his side to close the gap to two points at the top of the table.
Tim Krul
Krul pulled out the performance of the weekend. After Loic Remy had given Newcastle an early lead, it was down to Krul in the Newcastle goal to preserve it, and he pulled out a series of outstanding stops. They could’ve played for the rest of the day and Tottenham still wouldn’t have been able to beat the Dutchman given the form he was in. Outstanding.
Phil Bardsley
Another big performance and a big win for Sunderland with Bardsley being the stand out man in the side having managed to keep his composure to give them the lead, and was then part of a massive defensive effort to deny Manchester City any way back into the game.
Eden Hazard
He might have had a pretty crazy week in forgetting his passport resulting in him being late for training and dropped for the Champions League win over Schalke, but Hazard had a big role in salvaging a point for Chelsea against West Brom. It was his stinging shot that fell to Samuel Eto’o to give the Blues an early lead before it fell to him to dispatch a 96th minute penalty under immense pressure – even if the award of it was somewhat dubious.
