Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has changed Kristoffer Ajer’s position to centre-back.
Ajer was brought to Celtic as a defensive midfielder, but Rodgers saw the youngster’s future in the centre of defence.
And Ajer claims that he is now starting to feel comfortable at the back.
“I had a really good chat with the gaffer when I came here about my position,” the Norwegian said.
“I am now a centre-half. I always knew that would happen one day, but in Norway I was a midfielder as that was the best place for me to develop at that stage of my career.
“But now it’s better for me to focus on that defensive role and work on developing there.
“I have learned a lot in the last year.”
Ajer has only had a limited amount of first-team experience at Celtic so far, but he received regular game time on loan at Kilmarnock last term.
Ajer made 16 appearances for Killie, and looked comfortable in the Scottish Premiership.
Whether Rodgers will opt to keep Ajer around at Celtic for next term remains to be seen, but the youngster has had chances in pre-season.
Ajer has impressed in Celtic’s pre-season friendlies to date, when he has slotted in nicely in defence for the Bhoys.
If Ajer did stick around at Parkhead, he would be in competition with the likes of Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic for a first-team place.
The Bhoys played their first competitive fixture of the season last week, winning 2-0 against Linfield.
