Celtic moved themselves nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership on a challenging afternoon.

Kristoffer Ajer took to Twitter in the wake of Celtic’s win over Aberdeen on Sunday to make light of the collision between himself and Jozo Simunovic that resulted in the young defender needing to be bandaged up and requiring a change of shirt.

The Hoops put their midweek disappointment behind them as they recorded a 2-0 win over the Dons at Pittodrie that leaves Brendan Rodgers’ men nine points clear at the top of the table and 12 points clear of Derek McInnes’ side.

Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers celebrates during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It was not an entirely convincing performance from the Bhoys – but one that was certainly necessary after their display in Russia on Thursday which saw them crash out of the Europa League – and one of the moments that exemplified that was a misunderstanding between Ajer and Simunovic that resulted in the centre-back partners clashing heads.

Ajer came off much worse and was left on the ground as Aberdeen – surely wrongly – were allowed to continue their attack. But the Norwegian was able to carry on after treatment.

However, with a bandage around his head and a new, bloodless shirt, Ajer was able to continue, further endearing himself to the Celtic supporters who have been hugely impressed with the youngster over the last few weeks.

And after the game, Ajer took to social media to comment on the collision and the victory that puts plenty of daylight between Rodgers’ men and the chasing pack.
