Scott Bain started in between the sticks as Celtic beat Kilmarnock on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership.

Sky Sports pundit Kris Commons has boldly claimed that Celtic ace Scott Bain is ‘very comfortable in possession’ like teams in European football who ‘go back to the goalkeeper’.

Former striker Commons was relating to the time he was playing in Europe and stated how Bain is showing an ‘abundance’ of qualities that you would find in a free-flowing European side.

Brendan Rodgers men are sitting top of the Scottish Premiership and they will be looking to overturn a two-goal deficit in the Europa League when they travel to Valencia on Thursday.

Bain, who started the season on the bench, will be looking to keep his place in the starting XI as Commons compared his attributes to those in European football.

“A couple of years ago when I was playing in European football that was one of the biggest things I noticed between that and domestic football [goalkeepers passing out from the back],” Commons told Sky Sports Football on 17/02/2019.

“European teams go back to the goalkeeper and trust that he can keep hold of the ball. They are very comfortable in possession. Scott Bain has got that in abundance.”

In the 15 matches Bain has played in all competitions for the Bhoys this season, he has kept a remarkable 13 clean sheets, according to transfermarkt.

Added with that, since Celtic’s return from their midwinter break, they are yet to concede a goal as they continue to prove their worth in Scotland’s top-flight.

But Bain will be hoping to keep a clean sheet when his team travel to Spain on Thursday as the Glasgow club aim to secure their place in the next round of the Europa League.

Nonetheless, at the start of the season, Bain found himself playing behind the experienced Craig Gordon, who has now found himself watching on from the bench.
