Celtic are edging closer to winning the Scottish Premiership title for eight seasons in a row.
Kris Commons has told Kris Boyd that he thinks the Celtic board are looking for someone else to be their new manager after Neil Lennon’s side recorded a goalless draw against Hibernian on Sunday afternoon.
The former Hoops player also claimed that Lennon ‘never used to’ name his team before the game as he is ‘trying’ to keep the Brendan Rodgers way at the club.
There is no doubt that Celtic are going to win eight Scottish Premiership titles in a row, but it is the manner of performances which have come under the spotlight.
Speaking to Sky Sports Football (21/04/2019 at 2:40 pm), Boyd asked Commons about Lennon getting the Celtic job on a permanent basis.
“Do you not think this will have an impact on Neil Lennon getting the job?” Boyd asked Commons on Sky Sports Football. “I know it’s a point away from home, but there have been a few draws now.
Commons responded: “I think what Neil Lennon is doing right now is he’s being very adamant. He’s keeping it the same. Trying to keep the same routine. Naming the same team before the game. Neil Lennon never used to do that when I was there. It’s a Brendan Rodgers things. He’s trying to keep it the Brendan Rodgers way, he doesn’t want to shake it up too much.
“I think if Peter Lawell, Dermot Desmond or the Celtic supporters got together and said ‘we need to do it now’. I think Lennon would be the right man to do it. But the fact that they have not done it yet is leaving that doubt.”
Boyd added: “Do you think they are looking for someone else then?” Commons responded by saying, “I think personally, Kris if they wanted Lennon to be the permanent manager, they would have given him now.”
It remains to be seen if Lennon is offered the permanent role at Parkhead for a second time, but if they are to do it then they will need to quicken their decision because they have a big summer ahead of them.
But before that all unfolds, Celtic will be looking to wrap up the Premiership title as quickly as possible so they can then focus their attention on the Scottish Cup final.
Lennon, whether he is Bhoys manager next season or not, he will be hoping to guide his team to a historic treble-treble at the end of the campaign.
