Kris Commons has suggested in The Daily Mail that some Celtic fans would have been okay with the club selling Scott Sinclair in the summer of 2018.

Sinclair has struggled to play consistently well for Celtic so far this season, although the former Chelsea and Manchester City winger did score the winner against Aberdeen at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership this past weekend.

The former Aston Villa star was superb for Celtic in his debut season at Celtic Park in 2016-17 and was a key figure of the Hoops in 2017-18.

Former Celtic attacking midfielder Commons has suggested that some fans of the Glasgow giants would have accepted if the club had sole him in the summer of 2018.

Commons wrote about Sinclair in The Daily Mail: “It’s just a confidence thing. But, even so, some Celtic fans were really beginning to question Sinclair.

“His career history won’t have helped – he’s always tended to spend a couple of seasons at a club and then move on.

“One of Celtic’s highest-paid players, some supporters might even have accepted him being moved on to get him off the wage bill.

“They’ll have been thinking: ‘Well, if he isn’t getting a game, what’s the point in him being here?’”

Recovering form

Sinclair has been on the books of Celtic since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Aston Villa for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £3 million.

The 29-year-old – who earns £25,000 per week as salary, according to The Daily Star – needs to get back to his best, as Celtic need him to win the Scottish Premiership title and make an impact in the Europa League.
