Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts has been linked with a move to Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Kris Commons has told BBC Sport that he would love to see Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts return to Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Roberts is back at Premier League club City following an 18-month loan spell at Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.

The 20-year-old winger was one of the best players for the Glasgow giants last season, helping Brendan Rodgers’s side win the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup.

The Scottish Sun has also claimed that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate to sign Roberts on another loan deal.

It has been reported by The Sunday Post that Rodgers want to secure the services of the youngster in time to face Astana in the first leg of the Champions League playoff round at Celtic Park on Wednesday evening.

Former Celtic attacking midfielder Commons has said that he would love to see Roberts back at Celtic Park.

The 33-year-old Scotsman, though, has said that he would prefer James Forrest to Roberts to play against Astana if striker Leigh Griffiths is not fit enough to play.

“I’d love to see Paddy Roberts up there,” Commons told BBC Sport when asked who his preference would be if Griffiths was not available against Astana.

“I’d probably say James Forrest just because of his willingness and eagerness to run in behind.

“I think he can stretch teams that will give space to the likes of Sinclair, Rogic and Stuart Armstrong.”
