Former Celtic man Kris Commons spoke with Glasgow Rangers candidate Derek McInnes today as rumours build about his move to Ibrox.
Kris Commons has told BBC Scotland that Rangers managerial candidate Derek McInnes phoned him today to address what former Celtic star said at the weekend.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Commons intimated that the Aberdeen boss’s mind was perhaps on the Ibrox speculation after a slip-up with interviewer Luke Shanley.
Shanley put it to McInnes that he had made a number of changes for the visit of Rangers but the Dons manager forgot one and asked the Sky man to remind him who he had left out.
And the former Celtic ace then suggested that the 46-year-old’s mind was not on the game, but the rumours swirling around about him joining the Gers soon.
This prompted McInnes to ring Commons as the Hoops legend claimed that the Scot had accused him of “questioning his professionalism”.
Commons told BBC Scotland: “I spoke to Derek today. He had nothing but good things to say to me. He thought I was out of order because he thought I questioned his professionalism and the fact his mind wasn’t on the game.
“I did not try to portray that he wasn’t professional or that he didn’t understand his team. “I just thought it was strange with the circumstances.”
McInnes missed training with Aberdeen on Wednesday and it seems like his move to Rangers is gathering pace, even though the Dons refused to let their Ibrox rivals speak with him this week.
