Would Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers be making a mistake with Steven Gerrard like Celtic did with John Barnes back in 1999?

According to BBC Sport, Rangers are looking at former Liverpool and England international midfielder Gerrard for the managerial role at Ibrox.
Graeme Murty is in charge of Rangers at the moment, but recent results and performances, especially in the Old Firm derbies against Celtic, have not been great.
Former Celtic attacking midfielder Commons has reminded Rangers of what happened when the Hoops appointed Liverpool legend Barnes as the manager back in 1999.

Commons wrote in The Daily Mail: “Graeme Souness had no managerial experience when he came to Rangers in 1986.. But he had unprecedented financial backing.
“John Barnes later arrived at Celtic as a Liverpool legend but had never managed before. He lasted seven months. No matter how good a player Gerrard was, it’s a huge leap to being a full-time manager.”

Risk worth taking?
It will be a risk for both Rangers and Gerrard, but it is one worth taking, both for the Gers and for the Liverpool Under-18 boss.
True, the former Los Angeles Galaxy star does not have any first-team managerial experience, but if he surrounds himself with good coaches and is given financial backing in the summer transfer window, then he will be successful.
