Celtic were quite comfortably beaten, and Kris Commons has been heavily critical of Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Kris Commons told Sky Sports’ post-match coverage of Celtic’s defeat to Rangers (broadcast on 29/12 from 11:30) that Callum McGregor was the one outfield player for the Hoops who would have got pass marks for his performance in their Old Firm defeat.

Brendan Rodgers has just been beaten by Rangers for the first time since arriving at Parkhead after boasting a fantastic record up until the weekend.

Unfortunately for Celtic, they were probably fortunate to only lose 1-0 as they looked nothing like the side that has controlled the Scottish game for a number of years.

And Commons was extremely critical of their performance after the full-time whistle and suggested that McGregor is the only person in the Celtic dressing room who can be content with how they personally played.

Callum McGregor of Celtic shoots on goal but it is disallowed during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premier League between Celtic and at Ibrox Stadium on December 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“It was strange to see Celtic dominating nothing. It was so unlike Celtic,” he told Sky Sports. “For two and a half years, they have been the dominant force. Everyone can have an off day, but for me, looking at that Celtic team today, I think Callum McGregor is possibly the only one that would get a pass. I think everyone else played below par. This could have been three or four.”

It must be mentioned that Commons went on to praise Craig Gordon for the saves that he made during the contest, so perhaps the former Hoops forward felt that McGregor was the only outfield player who can be relatively happy.

McGregor did put the ball into the back of the net after a smart finish in the second-half. But he started his run a fraction too early and the flag went up. Had that decision not gone against Celtic, then perhaps there is every chance that that moment could have been crucial and Rangers’ winless run against the Bhoys would have continued.
