Glasgow Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has become a key man at Ibrox.

Ryan Jack of Rangers FC looks on prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on September 01, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Kris Commons told Sky Sports’ live pre-match coverage of Rangers’ clash with Celtic (broadcast on 1/9 from 11:30) that he thinks that Ryan Jack is a sensational midfielder and could get even better in the future.

Jack has become one of the most important players within Steven Gerrard’s side. The Gers have a lot of depth in the middle of the park, but Gerrard has continued to show faith in the 27-year-old.

He was outstanding as Rangers secured their spot in the group-stages of the Europa League in midweek, and he has been rewarded for his fine start to the season with a call-up to the Scotland squad for the upcoming international break.

And ahead of the Old Firm game, Commons suggested that he has been hugely impressed by the way that Jack has developed in the last couple of years and insisted that there could be more to come.

“I think at 27 now, he’s in the peak of his career. I think he’s a sensational midfielder. I think he’s got all the attributes to be an even higher level footballer. One thing you could say about Ryan Jack in the couple of seasons prior to this one was his discipline sometimes, he can get a little wayward with some of his tackles,” he told Sky Sports.

“He will dictate the play. He starts the attacks. He’s got an eye for goal, he’s got an eye for a pass and he’s got that very, very good discipline with the defensive side of the game. I think he’s a complete midfielder right now.”

It was not to be Rangers’ day in the first Old Firm meeting of the season as Celtic left Ibrox with a 2-0 win. Gerrard’s side were extremely disappointing as they rarely looked to properly testing Fraser Forster.

They have plenty of time to put that right this season. And if they do manage to avenge the defeat later on in the campaign, it would be no surprise to Jack playing a key role in the performance.
