Sky Sports pundit Kris Commons has spoken in awe of the returning Celtic ace Leigh Griffiths who he believes is a ‘big asset’ for club and country.

The 28-year-old has not played for the Bhoys since December because of personal reasons, but Neil Lennon has confirmed recently that he is edging towards a return, as reported by the Scotsman.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (27/04/2019 at 2:50 pm), Commons, who played with Griffiths at Celtic, spoke highly about his former teammate.

“He’s vital,” Commons told Sky Sports. “I think when Leigh Griffiths is at the top of his game he’s not just an asset for Celtic, he’s certainly a big asset for the country as well.

“I think he’s a goal machine, but he needs to be in the right frame of mind. I think his health and his mental state is what comes paramount. He’s doing light training now with Celtic, not back with the full squad as soon as he’s back with the full squad it’ll not take him long to get him back up to speed.

“But one thing Leigh has been guilty of is picking up little injuries, especially calf and hamstring injuries. When he is fit, he’s a huge asset. He’ll give Lennon or the other coach who comes in next season a different aspect because they’ll then be able to play two up top.”

It remains to be seen if Griffiths does return to action before the season draws to a close with games still remaining in the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.

The Parkhead faithful will be hoping Griffiths can return to celebrate the Hoops’ Premiership title which will more than likely be on May 19th because it is the final game of the season.

Added with that, the following week, Lennon’s side will take on the same opponents in the Scottish Cup final as the Glasgow giants chase a historic treble-treble.

Griffiths returning and potentially scoring in any of those games would top off another brilliant season for Celtic.
