Former Celtic attacking midfielder Kris Commons has spoken highly of Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday in The Daily Mail.

Commons was impressed with the performance of Halliday during the 1-0 win for Rangers against Celtic at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby at the weekend.

The 27-year-old midfielder started the Scottish Premiership match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as Steven Gerrard’s side won 1-0.

Commons wrote about Halliday in The Daily Mail: “A die-hard fan who wears the jersey with pride, he gave Rangers everything that Celtic lacked in the absence of Kieran Tierney.

“The relationship he has with Steven Gerrard is key in all of this. In Halliday, Gerrard is beginning to see that he has a real kindred spirit on his hands.

“Glasgow Rangers and the Old Firm derby runs through Halliday’s blood, just like Liverpool and the Merseyside derby did with Gerrard.”

Rejuvenated

Halliday is a rejuvenated figure at Rangers this season and is playing well for the Ibrox club at the moment.

The midfielder struggled to make an impact at the Gers after their promotion to the Scottish Premiership, but this season the 27-year-old has established himself as an important player in Gerrard’s team.

According to Transfermarkt.com, Halliday has scored one goal in 15 Scottish Premiership appearances for Rangers so far this season.

Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 42 points from 21 matches, level on points with leaders Celtic, who have a game in hand.
