Celtic captain Scott Brown retired from Scotland duty on Monday.

Former Celtic playmaker Kris Commons has posted a heartfelt message to Scott Brown on Instagram after the Hoops skipper announced his retirement from international duty.
Brown, 32, decided to end his association with the national team in order to focus on furthering his career with the Scottish champions, after talks with new Scotland boss Alex McLeish.

The former Hibernian midfielder had previously retired from Scotland duty in the summer of 2016, only to come back out of retirement just a few months later in order to face England in November 2016.
Commons, who played at Celtic alongside Brown for six years between 2011 and 2017 before leaving the Hoops last summer, stated that Brown’s retirement was “Celtic’s gain”.
Brown clocked up 55 caps for Scotland before this week’s decision, stating that he believes he needs to focus on Celtic in order to get the most out of his remaining years as a professional footballer.
McLeish has plenty of options in the middle of the park as Celtic manager, not least Brown’s teammates Stuart Armstrong and Callum McGregor.
Brown is next in action on Wednesday night as Brendan Rodgers’ side take on Dundee at Celtic Park.
