Celtic will be aiming for a historic treble-treble when they take on Hearts in the Scottish Cup final next Saturday.
Kris Commons has waxed-lyrical about Karamoko Dembele and the performance he put in on his debut as Celtic beat Hearts 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Parkhead.
The Sky Sports pundit compared the 16-year-old to Barcelona players and tried to explain that Dembele’s small stature has ‘no impact’ on him wanting to be a ‘top, top player’.
At half-time, with the scorers 1-1, Neil Lennon gave the highly-rated teenager his debut and he impressed throughout by getting on the ball and constantly trying to test the keeper with his left-footed shots.
Speaking to Sky Sports Football (19/05/2019 at 5:05 pm), Commons was mightly impressed with what he saw from Dembele on his senior debut.
“I would say that I’m 5ft6 and I remember being in a dugout with the Barcelona players that were smaller than me,” Commons told Sky Sports Football.
“Let me tell you, that has no impact on when you are a top, top player. You could see, as soon as he picks the ball up, he’s intent, there’s drive, you could see the fear in the defender’s eyes.
“Do you know the one thing that really impressed me about him? He didn’t want to take people on just for the sake of it. He plays nice little passes. He gets in little areas. He was a bright spark.”
A lot has been made of Dembele and what the highly-rated youngster is all about. Well, on Sunday he had the ample chance to showcase his talent, and he did.
Whilst he didn’t get on the scoresheet, he would have impressed many inside Parkhead, who will feel uplifted by what he may bring in the coming years.
Dembele made the bench against Hearts for the final Premiership encounter of the season and it remains to be seen if he keeps his place on the bench for the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.
