Lennon has been appointed as Celtic manager until the end of the season.

Celtic's new interim manager Neil Lennon is unveiled with his assistant John Kennedy at Celtic Park on February 27, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Kris Commons has told Sky Sports that new Celtic manager Neil Lennon has it all to do maintain the momentum that Brendan Rodgers had developed at the club before leaving on Tuesday.

Rodgers was announced as Leicester City’s new manager in a surprise move that sees the former Liverpool boss leave Celtic with the club at the top of the league, and on course to complete a treble treble.

Just months after describing Celtic as his “dream job”, Rodgers has left and that decision has angered Celtic fans – but the Scottish champions have moved quickly to bring Lennon back to Parkhead for a second spell as manager.

Commons – who was signed by Lennon in 2011 – warned the new Celtic boss that he has “big boots to fill” and reckons that it will be a “tall order” for Lennon to continue to kind of form Rodgers has implemented.

“He’s a guy that has got huge experience at the club,” Commons said. “He knows it inside out. There’s still a core of players he knows well. Let’s not forget, he was Hibernian manager when they beat Celtic not long ago.

“He’s a great manager that’s done wonderfully well in Scotland. He thrives on the Celtic atmosphere as a player and a coach. It will be business as usual, but he has got big boots to fill. It is a tall order to keep that momentum going.”

Since the turn of the year, Rodgers has guided his Celtic side to nine wins from the last 11 games – the other two results being Europa League defeats to Spanish side Valencia.

Lennon is set to take charge once again of the Bhoys as Celtic travel to Tynecastle to take on Hearts, as they look to increase their eight-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
