Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers have failed in their pursuit of Aberdeen boss and former Gers midfielder Derek McInnes.

Rangers wanted to appoint former Gers midfielder McInnes as their new manager, but the 46-year-old has decided to remain at Aberdeen.
Former Celtic star Commons has suggested that relationship between the ex-Bristol City manager and Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne may have played a role.

Commons wrote in The Daily Mail: “To be fair, his relationship with Stewart Milne must have been a factor in that respect.
“McInnes will know he might not establish that same bond with a chairman at another club. And given Dave King is based in South Africa, it’s not as if they could have shared a cup of tea on a weekly basis.”
Meanwhile, former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has admitted that he is surprised that McInnes decided not to switch to Ibrox, while ex-Hibernian midfielder Michael Stewart has criticised the club hierarchy at the Gers on social networking site Twitter.
The Scottish Sun quotes Ferguson as saying: “I thought emotion would have played a huge part, looking at Derek being a Rangers supporter and playing for the club as well.
“I’m absolutely stunned because I thought it was a gimme as soon as Rangers were pursuing him. When Derek wasn’t at training at Aberdeen I thought there was only going to be one outcome.”

Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 30 points from 16 matches, three points behind second-placed Aberdeen, who have played a game more.
The Gers will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Ross County at Ibrox in the league.
The Glasgow giants have won their last two league fixtures – both against Aberdeen.
