Sky Sports pundit Kris Commons has hit back at Scott Brown after he claimed that Celtic were ‘struggling’ [Daily Star] prior to Brendan Rodgers’ arrival in 2016.

Former Premiership striker Commons, who left Celtic Park in 2017, stated that it was the ‘wrong thing to say’ from Brown and that ‘certain things’ happened under the previous regime.

Rodgers, who won seven domestic trophies during his time in Scotland, left the Glasgow club in an abrupt manner for Premier League side Leicester City on Tuesday, which did not sit well with the supporters.

Speaking during the coverage of Heart’s home clash against Celtic on Sky Sports Football (27/02/2019 at 9:55 pm), Commons wasn’t in agreement with what Brown had to say.

“Struggling? That’s probably the wrong thing to say,” Commons told Sky Sports Football. ” I don’t think Celtic were struggling two and a half years ago. There were certain things that were happening two and a half years ago under Ronny Diela, obviously the regime there.

“But what Brendan did bring in was a unique professionalism of not only his tactical side but the way he worked day to day inside the building at Celtic Park up at Lennoxtown.”

Brown’s ‘struggling’ comments came off the back of him trying to defend his former manager, who has received a lot of stick since leaving the club.

During his time in Glasgow, Rodgers won seven domestic trophies, including the double-treble, going unbeaten in his first season as he was two trophies away from reaching a historic treble-treble this term.

It is still likely that will happen, with the Bhoys holding an eight-point lead at the top of the Premiership table and they are still in the hunt to win the Scottish Cup.

Nonetheless, Celtic secured a late 2-1 win at Hearts on Wednesday night as they began life without Rodgers and life with Neil Lennon by picking up three points.
