Leeds United should make a move for departing Celtic midfielder Kris Commons in the summer transfer window.
With Kris Commons’s contract with Scottish Premiership giants Celtic coming to an end this summer, the attacking midfielder is set to become a free agent.
The 33-year-old has been struggling with a back injury for the past 12 months, and the Scotsman himself has admitted to BBC Sport that he is undecided what he will do next.
Commons has spoken about options other than playing, such as coaching and media work, but Leeds United should try to convince the 33-year-old attacking midfielder to play for them for the 2017-18 season.
Given that the Scotsman will be a free agent soon, Leeds will save money in transfer fees. Moreover, Commons has been successful with Nottingham Forest and Derby County in England, meaning that he will have no problem in adapting to the Championship.
Fitness could be a concern for Commons, but if Leeds are able to manage him properly in terms of playing time, then he could prove to be a valuable player when Pablo Hernandez suffers a dip in form.
Hernandez is a very creative player, but during the 2016-17 campaign, the 32-year-old Spaniard, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, did have games in which he failed to make an impact.
Commons could be the player who fills in for Hernandez when the Spaniard struggles, and perhaps he could even compete with the former Valencia star for a place in the Leeds starting lineup.
