Kris Commons has told the Scottish Sun that Celtic attacker James Forrest is still at Parkhead because he doesn’t score enough goals.

Forrest has hit 12 goals in his last 11 appearances for club and country, after a blistering run of form.

But Commons believes that Premier League clubs will have been put off the Celtic man due to his failure to perform at a consistent level throughout his career.

Commons said of his former Celtic teammate: “I think one thing with James Forrest since making his debut is his consistency.

“Whether that’s due to injuries, or just a lack of game time?

“But he’s an exceptional talent – a real, real top player.

“But this is the first season he’s hit double figures.

“We’re still in November but it’s his consistency that stops James Forrest going into that next level, in the brackets of a Premier League club in England, because of the lack of goals that he scores.

“I don’t think you can play in that sort of position, just in behind or just wide when you are meant to be that creative midfielder, the goalscorer.

“I don’t think you can go and get a multi-million pound move down south if you don’t get double figures.”

Forrest has been one of Celtic’s best players so far this season, and his form is sure to have attracted admiring glances.

The forward netted a hat-trick for Scotland against Israel in his last appearance to really announce himself on the international stage.

Celtic will be determined to keep hold of Forrest, but if his current form keeps up then he is sure to be linked with clubs in England.

Forrest will be back in action for Celtic at the weekend, when Brendan Rodgers’ side return to action with a match against Hamilton.
