Kris Commons comments on Rangers-bound Jake Hastie

Jake Hastie is joining Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers this summer.

Kris Commons suggested on the SPFL Matters show on Sky Sports Football (10:15pm, May 17, 2019) that Jake Hastie could struggle to play regularly for Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers next season.

Hastie is joining Rangers in the summer transfer window, having already signed a pre-contract agreement with the Gers.

The 20-year-old winger will move to the Gers on a free transfer after leaving Motherwell.

The Scotland Under-21 international has only just burst onto the scene and is relatively quite inexperienced.

According to WhoScored, Hastie made 13 starts and two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Motherwell this season, scoring six goals in the process.

Former Celtic attacking midfielder Commons has suggested that the young Scotsman could struggle to make an impact at Rangers next season and could be playing development football.

Commons said about Hastie on the SPFL Matters on Sky Sports Football (10:15pm, May 17, 2019): “I just wonder how many opportunities Jake Hastie will get in this Rangers team.

“He could find himself playing development football, he could be used as a substitute on more than one occasion. It’s whether or not his development is going to hit a bit of a ceiling.”

Bad move?

Hastie is quite unproven at the moment, but there is no doubt that the winger is talented and has a lot of potential.

Rangers manager Gerrard would not have signed the youngster had he not seen something in him, and the Ibrox faithful should feel optimistic about the 20-year-old being a success at the Gers in the coming years.
