Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths are the two recognised senior strikers at Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic.

Leigh Griffiths of Celtic celebrates at full time during the Scottish Premier League between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park Stadium on September 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Kris Commons has suggested in The Daily Mail that Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard still needs 12 months to establish himself as the main striker for the Hoops.

Edouard spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain before the Glasgow giants signed the 20-year-old on a permanent contract for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £9 million.

The former France Under-19 international has scored 15 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for Celtic so far in his career, as stated on the Bhoys’ official website.

Former Celtic attacking midfielder Commons has suggested that Scotland international striker Leigh Griffiths should be the Hoops’ main striker, not Edouard.

Commons wrote in The Daily Mail: “There are still question marks over Edouard. Is he capable of scoring 30 goals per season just yet?

“It seems as if Rodgers sees him as his main man. In my eyes, he’s yet to prove he’s worthy of that.

“He’s still a prospect. He needs 12 months under his belt before he can be relied on every week. If Griffiths is fit and plays, he will get you those 30 goals per season.”

Progress and development

Griffiths is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership, and with Moussa Dembele having left Celtic in the summer transfer window, the 28-year-old should be the first-choice striker at Celtic.

Edouard is a huge talent and scores in big matches, but the 20-year-old probably needs a few more months to be considered better than Griffiths.
