Graeme Murty’s Glasgow Rangers have been linked with former Ibrox star Steven Naismith, but Kris Boyd wants the Norwich City man at Kilmarnock.

Rangers have been linked with a move for Norwich City attacker Steven Naismith in the January transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, Rangers are interested in signing the 31-year-old Scotland international, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward.

Naismith was on the books of Rangers from 2007 until 2012 and was hugely successful during his spell at Ibrox.

The Scotsman won the league title thrice, the Scottish Cup once and the Scottish League Cup twice during his time with the Gers.

The former Everton attacker recently suggested on BBC Sport that he is open to joining Rangers in the January transfer window.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd, who had two separate spells at Ibrox, though, wants Naismith to join him at Kilmarnock.

The Norwich attacker started his professional club football career at Scottish club Kilmarnock, and so did Boyd.

In fact, the two players were teammates at Killie and at Rangers, with Boyd now in his third spell at Rugby Park.

Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Do I seriously think Naisy could be wearing a Killie jersey before the end of the transfer window? Yes, I do.

“But with other teams competing for his services, and able to offer a more attractive financial package, it will take something special to pull the deal off. Personally, I would love to see him back where he began his career.”

“Rangers could also be a possible destination with Hearts willing to break the bank to land him,” added Boyd. “While I’m not sure all Rangers fans would welcome him back with open arms I do know the Kilmarnock supporters would walk across hot coals if it meant getting him back.
