Kris Boyd has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Celtic manager Neil Lennon does not rate Craig Gordon.

The former Rangers striker, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Celtic know that the contract they have offered to Gordon will be turned down.

Boyd has also suggested that the Scotland international goalkeeper should have left Celtic for Chelsea when he had the chance to do so.

Back in January 2017, BBC Sport reported a bid of £3.5 million from Chelsea for Gordon.

Brendan Rodgers, then in charge of Celtic, said that he did not want to sell the goalkeeper, who did not move to the Blues, as quoted on BBC Sport.

The Scottish Sun reported earlier this month that the Hoops have offered the former Sunderland goalkeeper a new contract, but on reduced terms.

Boyd wrote in the Scottish Sun: “From experience, I’d say it’s the type of offer Celtic know he’s going to turn down. Neil Lennon doesn’t seem to rate him, does he? Not really.

“Let’s get it right, he signed Fraser Forster who was sensational last season. But if he really trusted Craig then he wouldn’t have gone to the board and asked for major money to get the ex-England keeper on loan from Southampton.”

Boyd added: “I recall when Chelsea were keen on taking him to Stamford Bridge as a back-up, because I wrote about it at the time.

“I said he should go. I predicted a day would come when Celtic would release him and that’s virtually what’s happened.”

Leaving Celtic

Fraser Forster was the first-choice goalkeeper at Celtic last season, and he did a brilliant job while on loan from Southampton.

The Hoops want the 32-year-old goalkeeper back for the 2020-21 campaign, as reported by The Daily Record, and it is clear that Gordon will be a squad player yet again.
