Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has been linked with Chelsea in the January transfer window.
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Craig Gordon should not feel guilty about leaving Celtic for Chelsea in the January transfer window.
According to The Scottish Sun, Premier League giants Chelsea are interested in signing Gordon from Scottish Premiership outfit Celtic this month.
It has been reported that the Blues have made an offer of around £3 million in order to secure the services of the 34-year-old goalkeeper.
Former Rangers striker Boyd, now on the books of Kilmarnock, has suggested that if he has the chance to join Chelsea, then Gordon should take it.
The former Middlesbrough striker has pointed out that the Scotland international goalkeeper would not have been the first choice at Celtic Park had Dorus de Vries proven to be a capable signing.
De Vries joined Celtic in the summer of 2016 after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
The 36-year-old was brought in to compete for the spot between the posts, but the former Swansea City goalkeeper is now the clear number two behind Gordon.
“The only reason Craigy is the Celtic No 1 this season is because the Dorus de Vries experiment blew up in Rodgers’ face, like that time Kirk Broadfoot tried to boil an egg in a microwave,” Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun.
“Had Rodgers got his way then, it’s the Dutchman who would be playing every week. The Celtic boss didn’t think twice about ditching Craigy when he came in.
“The way I see it, that’s a seed of doubt that will be at the back of Gordon’s mind each and every time he runs out to play. So Rodgers only has himself to blame if big Gordon ends up a Chelsea player next week.
“And mark my words on this, it WILL happen if both Craigy and Chelsea want it to happen. Celtic are utterly powerless here.”
Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 61 points from 21 matches, 19 points clear of second-placed and Old Firm rivals Rangers and have a game in hand.
