Kenny Miller retired from international football in 2013, but has been impressing at Ibrox with Glasgow Rangers this season.
Scotland manager Gordon Strachan
Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that Gordon Strachan should have reached out to Rangers striker Kenny Miller in the same way that he did with Scott Brown ahead of Scotland’s clash with Slovenia on Sunday.
Miller retired from international football in 2013, much like the Celtic skipper did last August. However, Strachan has since convinced Brown to come back into the fold.
And with Boyd anticipating that Scotland are going to be up against it in their World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park, he suggested that the Gers stalwart would have been ideal player for the game, even with the likes of Leigh Griffiths, Jordan Rhodes and Chris Martin already within the squad.
“Our best chance of scoring will almost certainly come from the counter-attack, and that’s where [Steven Naismith] is at his most dangerous,” he told The Scottish Sun.
Rangers’ Kenny Miller
“With that in mind Strach could have picked the phone up to Kenny Miller when he decided to call Broony.”
Miller has certainly rolled back the years with his performances this season for the Light Blues. No Rangers player has scored more times in the Scottish Premiership than the 37-year-old, who has six strikes to his name in the top flight.
And with several of those goals proving to be winners – only once has Miller scored this season in a game the Gers have gone on to lose – it could certainly be argued that he could have made an impact in a game where the Scots could have to settle for one golden chance to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
