Kris Boyd suggests Liverpool send Ryan Kent back to Rangers

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly hoping to bring Ryan Kent back to Ibrox after a successful loan spell.

Kris Boyd has told Sky Sports that if Ryan Kent wants to make the grade with Liverpool, he should look to return to Rangers for another loan spell this summer.

Kent’s future is proving to be a major talking point this summer. The Yorkshire Evening Post recently reported that Steven Gerrard is keen to bring the winger back to Ibrox for another year, but Leeds are also interested, and The Sun suggested that Aston Villa are plotting a £10 million permanent move.

With the three clubs offering Kent the chance to head down very different paths, it is difficult to call what Kent’s next move will be. But Boyd insisted that he should go back to the Scottish Premiership if his ultimate goal is to break into the Reds side in the future.

“If Ryan Kent is going to be a Liverpool player, up here is perfect for him to learn the way that Liverpool play because Rangers are doing the same thing,” he told Sky Sports.

“In terms of their possession – they’re always on the front foot, they want to get their wingers on the ball to create chances and score goals. There’s no doubt Ryan Kent excelled in that environment last year. Whether he can do it again next year is a different question.

“But I think he’s a talented boy who will go far in the game and I think to learn the game, Rangers is the perfect environment for him. If he’s going to be a success at Liverpool I think he’d be better staying at Rangers rather than going to a team that’s at the bottom of the Premier League or a team in the Championship.”

Despite Rangers having a number of wingers on the books, you would imagine that Kent would quickly reestablish himself as a key player if he does return to Ibrox this summer.

While he perhaps did not score as many goals and provide as many assists he would have liked, he showed on a number of occasions that he had the ability to change games when Rangers needed a moment of inspiration.

And if there is more to come from the youngster, he could be the kind of signing that threatens to take Gerrard’s men back to Scotland’s summit if he does end up heading north of the border.
