Kris Boyd believes Tottenham Hotspur’s away form is ‘becoming a worry’ after losing 1-0 at Wolves on Saturday. Adama Traore scored the only goal of the encounter after 82 minutes.

The 27-year-old scored just his second Premier League goal this season after Fraser Forster parried Raul Jimenez’s effort. Spurs’ No2 goalkeeper would only divert the Mexican’s strike straight back into the centre of his penalty area, over Cristian Romero, for Traore to score.

Tottenham had rattled the woodwork twice and produced the best of the chances prior to falling behind. Pedro Porro hit the crossbar with a stinging free-kick before Son Heung-min hit the bar. Yet Wolves made a late charge after weathering the Spurs storm and hit home.

Wolves had spent much of a first half littered with stoppages camped inside their own half of the pitch. But Julen Lopetegui’s side produced a response after the break and continued to build momentum. The crossbar also came to Wolves’ aid after it turned Traore’s shot in.

Their result moved Wolves up from 15th place at the start of the day to 13th and created a six-point margin to the relegation zone. While Tottenham stayed in fourth but have played two more times than Newcastle United in fifth, four points back, and Liverpool, six behind.

Tottenham Hotspur’s poor recent away form now worries Kris Boyd

Tottenham also have an inferior goal difference to Newcastle, who lost 2-0 at Manchester City on Saturday, and Liverpool, who will host Manchester United on Sunday. Spurs’ is +10 after 26 games behind the Magpies’ +18 and Reds’ +12 through 24 top-flight games so far.

The north London outfit have also now lost their last four away games in all competitions. Tottenham lost away to Leicester City in the top-flight and at AC Milan in the Champions League. Sheffield United also beat Spurs in the FA Cup before they hit the road to Wolves.

Tottenham’s next two top-flight away days sees them face relegation-threatened teams in Southampton (March 18) and Everton (April 3). Spurs then visit Newcastle (April 23) and Liverpool (April 30) in crucial games in the top-four race. But their form now worries Boyd.

“For Tottenham, at this moment in time, you’ve got to stay their away form is [poor],” he told Sky Sports News (04/03, 17:41). “I know you can go to AC Milan and lose at any time but it’s not an outstanding AC Milan team.

“But you’ve lost 4-1 at Leicester, a team that was struggling at the time. Obviously, lost to Sheffield United during the week in the FA Cup and then went to Wolves today and lost, as well. It is becoming a worry.”
