Ryan Christie was shown an early red during Celtic’s Scottish Premiership defeat against Livingston.

Ryan Christie of Celtic arrives for the UEFA Europa League Play Off First Leg match between Celtic and AIK at Celtic Park on August 22, 2019 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Kris Boyd has ripped into Ryan Christie for his ‘shocking’ tackle on Scott Robinson which resulted in him being sent off in the first half of Celtic’s Scottish Premiership defeat against Livingston.

Former striker Boyd claimed that Christie was ‘frustrated’ and those frustrations stemmed from Celtic’s inability to get going in the first half.

The Bhoys went into the break level, but they were a goal down straight after the restart before the home side doubled their lead 15 minutes before time.

Nonetheless, speaking to Sky Sports Football (06/10/2019), Boyd shared his honest thoughts on Christie’s sending off in the first half.

“It’s a shocking tackle,” Boyd told Sky Sports. “I think Ryan Christie was a frustrated figure. And you see it from that angle, it’s horrendous. Scott Robinson is lucky to come away still on the field, actually and not having suffered a serious injury.

“It’s a horrendous tackle and out of character by Ryan Christie. But for me, it was frustration because Celtic couldn’t get going [during that period].”

Christie is a key player for Celtic and he will be a big miss for Neil Lennon’s side when they return from the international break as they will look to bounce back from Sunday’s surprise defeat.

As has been the case for a number of weeks now, the fixture list is piling up, with European, domestic Cup and Premiership actions in full flow.

When Celtic do return from the break, they will take on Ross County in the Premiership before facing a tough Europa League clash against Lazio on home soil.
