The former Rangers striker believes that Tavernier can write his name into the Gers’ history books if he stops Celtic from winning the Scottish Premiership title next season.
The Hoops have won the league title in Scotland for the past nine seasons and are favourites to make it 10 in a row in 2020-21.
Tavernier has been on the books of Rangers since 2015, but the former Newcastle United right-back has not won any major trophy with the Gers.
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton branded Tavernier a “serial loser” in December 2019, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.
However, Boyd believes that Tavernier can become a living legend at Rangers if he helps Steven Gerrard’s side win the league title next season.
Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun: “James Tavernier hasn’t won a major honour in his time as Rangers captain and takes enormous criticism for that. But it’s still possible he could end up being a living legend.”
