Kris Boyd was left annoyed after he was asked whether Celtic’s Callum McGregor is a world-class footballer.

The Sky Sports pundit stated that there are only two players of world-class ability in the world and they are Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

McGregor started for the Bhoys on Sunday as they recorded a disappointing goalless draw against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (21/04/2019 at 3:25 pm) after the match, Boyd reacted to the ‘crazy’ claim that McGregor is potentially world class.

“The term of world-class annoys the life out of me,” Boyd told Sky Sports Football. “There are two world-class players, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. To compare anybody with them is just crazy.”

There is no doubt that McGregor is a player of high quality, but he is nowhere near the high standards of a top European footballer.

He may need to further his career elsewhere, i.e. move to the Premier League in order to test himself at a higher level and see how far he can go.

But in the meantime, he will be looking to help Neil Lennon secure a treble-treble at the end of the season. The Scottish Premiership is on the verge of being put in the bag, whilst the Scottish Cup final against the Hearts is the game supporters are looking forward to the most.
