Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has criticised Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in The Scottish Sun.

The former Rangers man believes that Rodgers deserves criticism for the way Celtic performed and lost against Paris Saint-Germain this week.

The Scottish Premiership club were hammered 7-1 by Ligue 1 outfit PSG in Paris in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Celtic actually took an early lead against Unai Emery’s side, but they collapsed as the home team eventually eased to an easy win.

Former Rangers striker Boyd, who is now on the books of Scottish Premiership rivals Kilmarnock and had two separate spells at Ibrox, believes that ex-Liverpool and Swansea City manager should be criticised for the Hoops’ record against the big teams in the Champions League.

“Celtic go on about their history as a club but Rodgers has now been manager for three of their worst results ever,” Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun. “Barcelona in the Nou Camp. Now two tankings from PSG.

“In fact, when you throw in the night they couldn’t beat Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar it’s four games they’ve let themselves down.

“Forget all this talk about how Celtic couldn’t do anything to stop Paris Saint-Germain scoring seven in the Parc des Princes. I’m just not having it.

“The only good news for Celtic fans is that the doing they got is probably going to keep Rodgers in Scotland longer than he’d maybe like.”

Boyd added: “People down south don’t rate Scottish football so they want to see how he does when he steps into the Champions League.

“Qualifying for it in the first place is an achievement. But c’mon, being battered time and again is doing no one any good and, for the life of me, I can’t understand why Rodgers isn’t getting slated for it.”

Celtic have suffered massive disappointments against the top teams in the Champions League, and that is something that Rodgers should look into.

While one can understand why the former Liverpool boss needs to take responsibility for the way PSG hammered the Hoops on Wednesday evening, it should also be noted that the Parisian club have one of the strongest squads in Europe.
