Rangers face Villarreal on Thursday night in the Europa League.

Kris Boyd has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he believes Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has eclipsed Celtic stopper Craig Gordon and is now Scotland’s number one choice between the sticks.
Both McGregor and Gordon featured during the recent international break, with 36-year-old McGregor keeping goal during the 2-0 win over Albania in the Nations League while Gordon conceded four against Belgium.
McGregor re-signed for Rangers six years after leaving Ibrox and has kept seven clean sheets in his 12 opening games, conceding seven goals – which is exactly the same record for Gordon, only for the latter to have played 13 times.
Former Rangers striker Boyd, who remains at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, told the Evening Times that he believes McGregor has overtaken Gordon into the number one spot for Scotland.
“Alex McLeish obviously had a tough decision to make,” he said. But I fully expected Allan to start against Albania. Being involved in a competitive fixture for me means he’s Scotland’s No.1. I am sure he will be delighted,” Boyd said.
“From a Scotland point of view, it is good we have two players who are so talented in the same position. Off the field they are different characters. Knowing them both as I do, whoever isn’t selected will give the other one his full backing.”

Both will be in action on Thursday night as Rangers travel to Spain to face La Liga outfit Villarreal at the El Madrigal Stadium while Gordon will keep net against Rosenborg.
Rangers remain two points behind Celtic after the Gers beat Dundee 4-0 on Saturday, while Celtic could only muster a 0-0 draw against newly-promoted St. Mirren after going down to 10 men following Olivier Ntcham’s second yellow.
