Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that he is expecting Rangers to bag the victory when they face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday.

Mark Warburton’s men go into the game against the team that has consistently proved to be Celtic’s closest rivals in the title race in recent years, having failed to win any of their last three fixtures in the Scottish Premiership.

Nevertheless, perhaps with the Gers’ emphatic 5-0 League Cup win over Queen of the South in midweek in the back of his mind, Boyd has claimed that his old side are not as far away from being a good team as some believe, and has thus tipped them to end their wait for three points in the top flight.

“Gers are close to being a really good team in my view,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“With Barton gone they have Andy Halliday ratting around the pitch and that’s a job he’s very good at. Gers will need that today. I could be proved wrong, but I fully expect them to go to Pittodrie and get all three points.”

While Derek McInnes’ men have been the Hoops’ closest challengers over the past few seasons, their start to the new campaign has been almost identical to Rangers’.

Both sides have won two, drawn three, lost one and scored seven, which means the only reason that the Light Blues are below them in the table is the fact that Warburton’s men have conceded two more goals.

So with the margins between the pair perhaps not that distant, it is highly possible that today’s game could be decided by one moment of magic.
