Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are already seven points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.
Kris Boyd has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 13th October, that he cannot see Glasgow Rangers finishing anywhere other than second this season.
Rangers went into the new campaign hoping that they could end Celtic’s dominance over Scottish football.
However, the Ibrox side have struggled over the season so far, and Boyd feels that Rangers still have some way to go if they are to challenge their Glasgow rivals.
“Second isn’t acceptable, but in reality, Celtic are miles ahead of Rangers as it stands right now,” Boyd said, when asked where Rangers will finish this season. “I still fully expect Rangers to finish second.
“The expectations of Rangers football club is massive. Straight away to compete with Celtic is what the fans want, it’s what they demand. But there needs to be a realisation of where the club has been and it will take time to get back to where it was. The league is not as easy as people make it out.
“I don’t think Rangers are a million miles away from where they need to be. They are dominating games, and if they start taking their chances they will start climbing the table.”
Rangers are currently seven points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership standings, and Brendan Rodgers’ side also have a game in hand.
Rangers are stuck in fifth place in the top flight table at the moment, having won just three of their first eight matches.
When Rangers and Celtic met earlier in the campaign, Mark Warburton’s men fell to a 5-1 defeat.
Rangers will have a chance to get their revenge for that heavy loss when they meet Celtic in two weekends’ time in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.
