Borna Barisic opened his account for Rangers in fine style over the weekend.

Kris Boyd has claimed that he is ‘looking for more’ from Rangers defender Borna Barisic after he netted his first goal for the club over the weekend.

Barisic scored a superb free-kick in the second half as Rangers secured a 1-0 win at St Mirren, with a big week coming up for Steven Gerrard’s side.

It has been a tough time for Barisic at Ibrox as he has come under fire for his performances and his inability to make the left-back spot his own.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (26/08/2019 at 12:35 pm), Boyd praised Barisic for his goal, but after being ‘very vocal’ about Rangers’ problems in that area, he believes now is the time for the Croatian to prove his worth.

“What a fantastic free-kick it was from Borna Barisic,” Boyd told Sky Sports News. “You hope so [it’s a turning point]. Rangers paid a lot of money to bring him to Scotland. You are looking for more.

“I have been very vocal in the fact that Rangers have been weak in the left-back area, so you are hoping he is one that would step up now and be counted. There are a lot of big games coming up for Rangers, starting on Thursday then Sunday.

“He was the number one left-back. Jon Flanagan has come in, I think he gives them more balance. His natural instinct is to tuck in and make it a back three as such. But if Barisic’s performances get better then he can become that number one again.”

Borna Barisic of Rangers looks on prior to the Ladbrookes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on February 16, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

If Barisic can use the confidence from his goal against St Mirren to produce his best form for the club then he’ll be doing it at the right time.

On Thursday, the Gers have a Europa League second-leg qualifier to play and Gerrard’s side will want to cement their place in the group stages.

Then there’s that Old Firm encounter against Celtic on Sunday, where a top performance against their rivals will no doubt see Barisic win over the fans.
